torn between

I haven’t been very good at keeping up-to-date on my blog but i have been plugging away in the studio.  Over the next few days I will post some of the results below are two figures ready for the Roma regional Gallery exhibition.

a new chameleonrecruit

I am currently working on six new chameleonrecruits from the sirens saints and sinners series hopefully to get exhibited as a one group.  Here is the first of the new recruits – slightly different process in that a decorative slip was applied at quite a wet stage of the building process and where it is quite thick it has started to peel and flake – I couldn’t have asked for a better result.  This piece was coloured bisque fired, stained and then fired again.  The final finish is hot wax allowed to partially seal but add yet another layer of decay. size approx. 40 cm x 40 cm x 30 cm

burdenwithcare

burdenwithcare has had two firings and a final wax finish – still thinking about her headress  whether to stick with the jute or go with something a bit more decorative – perhaps leather but I also have a huge range of vintage linen threads which could also work.   burdenwithcare_detail2

don’t push

Moreton Bay Art Prize is one of the few major art prizes in south-east Queensland region – so it is always nice to be included in the final jury selection.  This year I only entered the 3D section with dontpushmybuttons – even the good get weary 40 x 30 x 30 cm terracotta, engobe, underglaze and stains

don't push my buttons

burdenwithcare- in progress

for the first time in several months I am getting an opportunity to just play in the studio – my next planned exhibition isn’t until the end of 2015 – and although there are some other plans underway – the pressure is off and the there is time to just explore some different aspects of clay and finishes.

burdenwithcare – handbuilt ceramic vessel, engobe, terrasigillata, and underglaze – is waiting for its first firingburdenwithcare burdenwithcare02

and a previous post on ‘tellingmystory‘ whilst waiting for a firing has undergone significant change.  I am looking forward to seeing the alchemy.tellingmystory05 tellingmystory04
