a good girl scout – neverleaveshomewithoutherhanky

Exciting developments I have been asked to provide sculptures to Tusk Gallery in South Yarra for an exhibition opening in March. Despite the short time frame I did have some work underway –

From the siren, satyrs, sinners and saints series –

For those interested in process – she is hand built ‘Keane’s Special K” white groggy clay.
underglazed on her ‘hat’, engobe on her face, bisqued, then more stain and underglaze applied then fired to 1140 degrees.  Vintage meccano and a piece from one of my daughter’s broken sandals forms the shoulder pad (waste not)!! She then has a wax finishing on hat and a matt medium applied to the body for a bit of protection.

breathing a sigh of relief

don’t push my buttons – came through the bisque but I was really unhappy with the result – I added more stain, more engobe and some very watery underglaze colours – put it back in the kiln and crossed my fingers. (maybe I prayed to the kiln god as well!)don't push my buttons dont_push_detail

terracotta and white clays, stains , engobe and underglaze approx. 40 cm x 30 cm x 25 cm.

finished

One siren finished – detail of her bodice which is machine and hand embroidery, vintage fabrics and threads.

work in progress

A couple of weeks ago I posted a sketch book entry ‘waiting for David’  I have started work on the individual pieces below.waiting_for_david_inprogress

Another trip to Noosa Gallery today to meet the press – a television programme called ‘the great south-east’ was doing an article on the gallery and they were kind enough to invite me along – as my work is currently in the gallery – programme airs in June.  Maybe my stars are beginning to line up 🙂

installation – drawer(n) from life vimeo file

We are all done and dusted –  monday morning saw us delivering the work to Noosa Regional Gallery.  If I thought my task of getting everything there safely was an ordeal – the gallery staff were exhibiting a well oiled machine.  In two days they de-installed two huge exhibitions and installed four new shows.  A huge thank-you to their professionalism and capability and curatorial prowess in making my small contribution a pleasure to view.

I am attempting to upload a video of the installation via vimeo  – the link below is to a vimeo file
