chameleonrecruits – out of the fire

chameleonrecruits01_detail-copy

Despite what we think we know and what we think will happen in the firing process – there are unseen consequences – I am pretty sure this fellow suffered a degree of torment at 1140 degrees. I have already begun to build an army of recruits – en masse the possibilities will be intriguing – it is always a question of my own resolve and sustenance!

Exciting developments I have been asked to provide sculptures to Tusk Gallery in South Yarra for an exhibition opening in March. Despite the short time frame I did have some work underway –

For those interested in process – she is hand built ‘Keane’s Special K” white groggy clay.
underglazed on her ‘hat’, engobe on her face, bisqued, then more stain and underglaze applied then fired to 1140 degrees.  Vintage meccano and a piece from one of my daughter’s broken sandals forms the shoulder pad (waste not)!! She then has a wax finishing on hat and a matt medium applied to the body for a bit of protection.

chameleonrecruits – before the fire

Nearly 2 months since I have posted something – we have been very busy helping our eldest twin prepare for her latest adventure – 12 months volunteering in North Yorkshire UK.  Apparently it started to snow yesterday – her first experience of the white, wet stuff !!!  I have not entirely neglected the studio and this morning 3 new ceramic sculptures went into the kiln.  Sneak peak of one of them before firing …these are still from the sirens, satyrs, sinners and saints series

breathing a sigh of relief

don’t push my buttons – came through the bisque but I was really unhappy with the result – I added more stain, more engobe and some very watery underglaze colours – put it back in the kiln and crossed my fingers. (maybe I prayed to the kiln god as well!)don't push my buttons dont_push_detail
