gravitas lost

Great run yesterday down to the Gold Coast around 5 hours return journey. gravitas lost is a mixture of terracotta and white clay bodies, colour is stains, and engobe – once fired to 1100. 50 x 25 x 25 cmgravitas lost  _ detail gravitas lost

  1. Yes I can see what you mean – I hadn’t thought about it looking like something other than clay. I have deliberately left this head ‘raw’ looking no smoothing out or ‘finishing’ the head in any way – I applied the black stain while the clay was still damp – not quite leather hard – so that it was almost absorbed into the clay and didn’t try to wash/wipe off any of it. There is also some terracotta clay smeared on top of the white clay head. Once fired to 1100 degrees.

  2. thanks Patti – I am trying to make more of a feature of the incomplete surface – for me it might be a way of revealing more of what simmers away beneath – or perhaps allowing the soul to breathe !
