Despite what we think we know and what we think will happen in the firing process – there are unseen consequences – I am pretty sure this fellow suffered a degree of torment at 1140 degrees. I have already begun to build an army of recruits – en masse the possibilities will be intriguing – it is always a question of my own resolve and sustenance!

For those interested in process – she is hand built ‘Keane’s Special K” white groggy clay.
underglazed on her ‘hat’, engobe on her face, bisqued, then more stain and underglaze applied then fired to 1140 degrees. Vintage meccano and a piece from one of my daughter’s broken sandals forms the shoulder pad (waste not)!! She then has a wax finishing on hat and a matt medium applied to the body for a bit of protection.
Nearly 2 months since I have posted something – we have been very busy helping our eldest twin prepare for her latest adventure – 12 months volunteering in North Yorkshire UK. Apparently it started to snow yesterday – her first experience of the white, wet stuff !!! I have not entirely neglected the studio and this morning 3 new ceramic sculptures went into the kiln. Great run yesterday down to the Gold Coast around 5 hours return journey. gravitas lost is a mixture of terracotta and white clay bodies, colour is stains, and engobe – once fired to 1100. 50 x 25 x 25 cm
Two more completed pieces a counterfeit obsession and falling from grace both pieces are ceramic sculpture, engobe, stains and underglaze in vintage sewing machine drawers.
New work out of the fire and ready to deliver to Anthea Polson Art at Southport Marina tomorrow. It is about a four hour round trip but absolutely worth the drive – the gallery is beautiful and full to the brim of stunning art work.

Sometimes documenting work before they go into the fire can be a useful practice. This piece had a little explosion
and has suffered some facial damage and a missing shoulder/back section – but all is not lost and I have replaced the shoulder with a meccano structure and the damage echoes traces of life experience.
This is a big heavy piece 80 x 40 x 30 cm – a mixture of terracotta and white clay. underglaze, stains – burnished.
I will post the finished piece as soon as I can get it photographed.
Spent the day installing new exhibition at Rosebed St. Gallery – here are some gallery shots – apologies for the reflections on the glass. My sculptures and David’s drawings work well together in this space.
