Currently working towards finishing installation piece for ‘loss reverence and longing’ at Wagga Wagga City Gallery. This exhibition is part of the centenary commemorations of
the ANZAC story. My contribution is called ‘absence’ and is four x 4 metre length panels
of gauze field bandage with cigarette cards sandwiched between the layers and stitched. The sculpture sits in front of the panels.
the previous vessels with drawn images were collaged onto the side – this vessel almost has a repeat pattern drawn directly into the clay. everyone has their own way of accomplishing a task – after trial and error the best method for me has been to cover the freshly hand built form in underglaze before it gets to the leather hard stage – and to carve back into the vessel while the clay is still quite moist.

I haven’t been very good at keeping up-to-date on my blog but i have been plugging away in the studio. Over the next few days I will post some of the results below are two figures ready for the Roma regional Gallery exhibition.

when this vessel went into the fire I was less than happy with the form – but now that she has been spruced up a bit – a brightening with some acrylic paint, some papermache added to her headpiece and the final sealing of sections with encaustic … she started to speak to me

Had a pretty good week this week – some of the work fired will be useable for exhibiting next year (that is a plus) a kiln full of rubbish might be a bit disheartening; and I managed to complete several pages in a small sketchbook for the ‘the sketchbook project’ that will be exhibited here in australia before heading off overseas to join the touring group.
The other good news is that I have had my ‘chameleon recruits’ selected for the gold coast international ceramic award in september – this is fantastic !!!

the final five chameleonrecruits are finished – all hand-built terracotta, slip, underglaze, stained and waxed – with some applied mixed media elements – size variable 30 – 70 cm in height.
the second chameleonrecruit is finished – handbuilt ceramic sculpture, slip, underglaze, stained and waxed (encaustic) 70cm x 30 x 30 cm 
I am currently working on six new chameleonrecruits from the sirens saints and sinners series hopefully to get exhibited as a one group. Here is the first of the new recruits – slightly different process in that a decorative slip was applied at quite a wet stage of the building process and where it is quite thick it has started to peel and flake – I couldn’t have asked for a better result. This piece was coloured bisque fired, stained and then fired again. The final finish is hot wax allowed to partially seal but add yet another layer of decay. size approx. 40 cm x 40 cm x 30 cm
