Yesterday I took several of these ladies out of the fire – slowly applying the finishing touches. Each figure is approx 60 cm high and they are made with white clay – once fired – under glazed and stains, acrylic painting with vintage fabrics. I have yet to apply some sort of matt finish.
I have been really struggling with this drawing for the last few days – trying to dream a resolution.
And like many of my drawings it began in a completely different place – and has undergone lots of transitions.
As a mother of twins the toll on the body is immense – living change. It is finally close to being finished (I think).
This figure was one of the first large sculptural pieces that I completed 12 months ago.Unresolved it stood in the corner of the studio abandoned while I struggled to get a more thematic group of works together for my solo exhibition last april. Last week I started painting her more as an experiment towards some other large figures that I am currently working on – I am reasonably happy with the result – she is certainly more resolved. 
The studio beckons but it has just been too cold out there today – sorry this image is a bit blurry but it is taken looking from my kitchen into the studio. Some life drawings on the wall from last week and an old ceramic figure (12 months old) that I have just started painting. 
When caryatids fly the coop – are they banished to the fringe ? A new make-over – bigger wings, some stitched coverings and a new ride!
Where do you wear your heart? – new additions to the caryatid family. Fired and finished ready to take down the gold coast on friday.

Having a really good week in the studio finished another caryatid – and she is ready for the fire.
I must admit I had been feeling a little raw and exposed – out on a limb – but fantastic news this afternoon I have sold a substantial number of works from my show – sheer bliss – the feeling is fantastic. I had purchased a swag of new paper on thursday and had been thinking maybe I was being a bit extravagant but all good now. Here is another drawing from life drawing on thursday that I have coloured up a bit with watercolour pencils. A4 strathmore with biro and watercolour pencils.
