I took my exhibition brochure to the printers last week but when they did a trial print the blacks were all different colours – I have spent some time trying to amend the problem between a number of different software packages – finally (many hours later and much cursing) the problem is all but fixed and we are going to print. Not much left to do now – yesterday I also picked up all the drawings from framers – looking good! The brochure is A4 (landscape) and folds down the middle.
Progress on mother courage is going reasonably well. I have finished ‘six babies’ which fit snugly into her wings – currently lined with plastic – to stop the new wet clay from seeping through into the dry clay (hopefully). I think most of the coconut fibre texture which is packed around the babies and their heads will burn out in firing. To replicate this I think I will be able to make a slip from ‘air-hardening clay’ and more coconut fibre and just top it up to finish off the piece. After firing I will probably finish with a mixture of ceramic stain and acrylic paint. Time will tell 🙂
great day in the studio – replaced a head, found an old candelabra that will be a perfect support and I have resolved the form. lots more hungry babies to add to the back wing/canoe section.
Maybe a little more colour and she will be finished
Sleep has been waiting on the sidelines for me to put the finishing touches on for some time – today was the day. Next question – in the box or out of the box?
Out of the fire – but now I am faced with finishing – I have been playing around with different size sewing machine drawers and this particular sculpture fits really snugly into one of the smaller drawers. However on the wall of the gallery – all the drawers being the same size – I think will look stronger.
I have spent the afternoon cleaning and waxing the vintage sewing machine drawers for my caryatids – I have 10 sculptures completed and I am hoping to place them all in the gallery along one wall on a perspex shelf at eye level.
Somewhere between Summer’s longing and Autumn’s kindness is one of the larger sculptures that I have ready – it may get edited out during bump-in. She is 50cm tall.
